The community of P.224Q continuously develops and refines their educational practices supporting their beliefs that students learn best when: · They are taught through well-planned targeted, and differentiated lessons designed to give all students access to the curriculum and accelerate their learning · When they are presented with learning activities related to a lesson that challenge their thinking and give multiple opportunities for application of material taught · When they are given immediate meaningful feedback and opportunities to self-assess · When they are taught in an environment where they feel safe to learn and take risks to develop their understanding

Letters from Principal Jamie

Dear P.224Q Community,

The holidays allow us to pause our busy lives and reflect on our proud accomplishments. The season offers us a chance to say “thank you” to the entire school community for all of the support that you provide to our students, our families, and our staff.

We can’t thank everyone enough for your endless hours of work and for doing everything you can to support our children and their families—both at home and at school.

Parents, of course, are a critical part of all we do. Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious gift.

We are thankful to our magnificent, talented, creative, inquisitive, enthusiastic, resourceful, and resilient students. They often make us laugh and sometimes make us cry, but they always make us better.

To the staff, we see your continued dedication to our children and our families and want to recognize you for your hard work. Whenever you face an obstacle, you always think of a solution to overcome it. The P.224Q students and families are lucky to have you advocating for them.

On behalf of the entire administration, we want to wish you all a joyous and special holiday season with plenty of time to relax and enjoy family and friendships. Safe travels and warm tidings to every one of you!

Respectfully,

Jamie, Danielle, Kara, Stacy, John

Important Message

Attendance:

  • Students are expected to attend school every day.

  • 95% attendance is recommended by the P. 224Q Attendance Committee. Good attendance has a high correlation to student success.

  • Parents are expected to call the school when a student is absent to inform us of the reason. If we do not hear from you, the school will contact your home.

  • A written note must accompany the child upon his or her return to school, as required by education law.  A doctor’s note can excuse a student from an unauthorized absence.

  • An attendance teacher will be notified if a student is absent for three or more days and we are unable to contact the parent. In addition, after three days you will need to contact the bus company to reinstate pick up.

  • If a student is going out of town for an extended period you are required to put in writing where the student is going, for how long they will be away and leave a phone number where contact can be made even if it is out of the country.
